Opposition from the Religious Leaders

  • Sometimes Jesus comes off as harsh and hostile, and we don’t know what to do with Him! Notice though that He directs these words at people who said He was possessed by Satan. Those are fighting words! Why do you think Jesus’ opponents would say that? What may have motivated them?

  • Perhaps you’ve heard of “the unforgivable sin.” Here Jesus makes it clear that the only sin that cannot be forgiven is when someone outright attacks the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and refuses to admit they were wrong. What would that tell you about the person’s heart?

  • What we believe deeply always shows up in what we say and do, like fruit on a tree or the light coming from a lamp. What can you point to in your life that is evidence of your faith in God?
