Dinner at a Pharisee’s House on the Sabbath

LUKE 14:1-24

  • A meal with Jesus must have been an event no one wanted to miss! As all of the guests jostled for position, hoping to get a good seat and the honor that came with it, Jesus paid attention to the ones others overlooked or preferred to avoid. Think about the kind of people you prefer to have around. Are you eager to welcome the stranger or the ones less fortunate? Who comes to mind when you think of this topic? What might Jesus want you to do next?

  • Jesus also practiced what He preached, elevating the humble and rebuking those who exalted themselves. Describe some times you can remember Jesus doing this during His earthly ministry. What difference did it make?

  • Once again, Jesus offers a harsh warning for anyone who would make excuses rather than following Him. He demands our undivided attention and full commitment. How is that a challenge for you? How can it be encouraging?
